Dead Red began its journey some years ago in a weather beaten, poorly ventilated shed nestled between the rolling hills of the west coast of Newfoundland. Their aggressive sound was forged in the drunken fury of those early sessions, melding their love of melody with the turbulent force of rock and roll. Quickly outgrowing the confines of that shed, they decided to immigrate to the more promising shores of Nova Scotia. After joining the ranks of the working poor and surviving the departure of two drummers, they settled into their present line up with Peter MacMillan on drums/vocals, Fabian O'Brien on guitar/vocals/yelling, and Francis Hall on vocals/bass.

The past few years has found them working hard to spread their unique take on loud, fast rock 'n' roll. With their current lineup, Dead Red has tightened their “more rock, less talk” live show, honing their sonic edge before indifferent drunks throughout Halifax. After spending time decimating the open mic circuit, Dead Red went on to win the Dalhousie University Battle of the Bands. This has led to shows with local bands Bucket Truck and King Konqueror as well as opening slots for international stars No Means No, Groovie Ghoulies and Gob.

"Static is as strong a punk rock record that has ever come out of the east coast."
Jay Dimmer, Reverb, August 2001

Dead Red's first CD is entitled “Static”. This is a self-produced effort, recorded and mixed by the band members themselves. A year and a half in the making, it embodies the high octane of their live performance as well as exemplifying their penchant for good melody. Ranging from the fast riff-driven rockers of “Eclipse” and “Crash” to the more traditional nuance of songs such as “Flower Hill” and “Ballad of a Forsaken Man”, this CD combines a myriad of influences, from Elvis, the Misfits, and U2 to Bad Religion and Slayer. This cocktail is carefully mixed and served; a fast, high energy rock statement.

Currently, they have just released a taster mp3 cover of close friends (and former Newfoundland band) Hardliner's single "21st Century Fox". This slice of molten mayhem features the searing vocals of lead drummer Peter Macmillan. Stepping out from thankless drumming obscurity to hardrock infamy Peter brings the rock in a brutal fashion belying his soft exterior. Also, a video for the song "Out of Control" was recently completed, meticuously pieced together by uber video director/editor Mr. Micheal Bartlett, Esq.....A new cd will see the light of day in 2006.Thanks for checking in...see ya soon!!!
